Google Finance: Smart Interaction Design and neat integration of Flash and AJAX

I’m just posting this as a mental note to myself, saw this popping up on the aggregrators this morning, Google Finance , and noticed the very neat display of the stock chart with smart integration of news using AJAX.

Just check the chart on the Adobe Stock page and drag the slider around and click on the corresponding letter. You will see the news scroll up to the relevant article. You can also drag the edges of the timeframe to have a bigger overview.

The whole implementation is unobtrusive and the Flash movie blends seamless into the whole page which i think is kinda neat. The frontpage chart reminds me a bit of the work by Edward Tufte and his SparkLines essay.
