MX Traveler 1st year ( and Flash Europe versus MAX? )

with 2 comments

Being on the road for 3 1/2 weeks, with no internet, laptop, computer books or mags, surely gives you some time for self-consciousness and -reflection and was much needed to put certain things in perspective. Back full on, and i’ll try to blow new life into this blog. This post marks the 1st year birthday of MX Traveler.

The next couple of months i’ll be presenting on a few upcoming conferences. These include Flashtival, Media Elements and Flash Europe. I reckon it’s going to be awesome as i will have a chance to meet up with the international Flash community. If you happen to bump into a little Philipino guy with piercincs and a mohawk..that’s me. Make sure to say hi 🙂 Now the downside is, something i just found out, is that Macromedia MAX is being held on the same dates as Flash Europe. Taling about bad planning…i’m sure a lot of people would have wanted to attend either one of these events, and are now forced to make a choice.

Myself, i really want to attend Macromedia MAX, as i hope it will reveal more information on the roadmap and vision of MM on the “Rich Internet” space. Then again, i think Flash Europe is going to be lots of fun, as there will be lots of fellow coders from around the globe presenting there. I’ve heard conspiracy theories of people/speakers not wanted to be fingerprinted when entering the United States, and Macromedia not willing to sponsor an event being held at the same dates as their own conference, leading to this clash, but let’s hope that’s just rumours. I’m looking into the posibility to attend 3 days MAX, then fly to Barcelona and present. I hope i can work something out…

Which conferences are you going to be at? 🙂

  1. Congratulations on celebrating 1 year! Do you have any other pictures you plan on sharing from your trip? If so, I’d be interested in seeing them… 🙂

  2. Hi Owen, hope you enjoyed the time off!

I’ve been looking at doing the same thing but despite MAX being a really cool conference and probably the number one place to be to be “in the loop” on Macromedia’s vision for the future I doubt its worth the investment for just 2 or 3 days.

Think I’d be absolutely exhausted flying back from New Orleans dealing with the jetlag and preparing for a session in Barcelona that day or the next. Personally I’d rather save up to attend FitC or one of the next FlashForward conferences.

My conference list is pretty much the same as yours, we’ve really got some great stuff going on in Europe these coming months. Will you be attending MAX Europe 2005 in London early next year?
