Wishlist for MX3

with one comment

The news is finally out, Macromedia has released Flash MX2 ( or Macromedia Flash MX 2004 Professional as it is called ). I have been working with it extensively and i am excited about the new features. There are some great reviews out there, just checkout fullasagoog and follow the links from there.

Ofcourse, You can’t satisfy everybody and i have some comments about the Actionscript editor ( and the IDE in general ). Here is a list i submitted to the wishlist, about some features i would love to have in Flash MX3:

Simple but essential things like:

– A filebrowser
– Codefolding
– Matching closing brackets
– A commandline compiler
– Debugging from the same window, not in a seperate panel

“not essential but nice to have” features like:

– Runtime analysis of the code to detect runtime errors, and potiental bottlenecks
– Refactoring of code(blocks)
– A Project window that integrates with CVS
– Documentation Generation from code ( like JavaDOC )

“not essential but very productive” addons like:

– An open plugin architecture
– The ability to draw UML diagrams AND
– Round trip engineering, back and forth to UML diagrams
– Run Unit Tests with one button
– Implement Design Patterns and code templates
